Mycosef is committed to revolutionizing psychedelic mushroom cultivation with a focus on sustainability, as well as inclusivity, equity, and community outreach as we grow.

Currently as a small-scale cultivator, we prioritize providing a safe and naturally derived product in every step of the process which is performed and monitored onsite.

Current Practices

Achieved Practices:

  • Reduced disposable plastic waste through use of reusable containers for storage and cultivation which undergo repeated heat sterilization.
  • All energy from electrical sources, avoiding other environmentally harmful sources such as coal, oil, or natural gas.
  • 100% organic and biodegradable materials in all substrates including grain, coconut coir, vermiculite, straw, and gypsum, ensuring that both products and byproducts remain natural and eco-friendly.

Practices for Improvement:

  • Use of disposable plastic linings in fruiting phase and disposable plastic product packaging for distribution.
  • Lack of utilization of renewable energy resources such as solar power.

Future Goals

“Zero Waste” by 2026:

  • Track resource utilization and waste production through careful documentation of stock and inventory with quarterly reviews every three months to assess ongoing progress and areas modifiable for environmental efficiency.
  • Develop reusable and washable bin liners to eliminate disposable plastic waste within first two quarters.
  • Incorporate renewable energy sources such as solar panels timeline pending discussion with commercial property management/obtain commercial property with renewable energy sources in place.
  • Provide spent substrate used for plant nutrients for free to local businesses in underserved communities, supporting sustainable agriculture and economic equity.
  • Continue using only organic materials to ensure sustainability of both products and byproducts.
  • Host workshops to educate the public and aspiring cultivators on zero-waste techniques and sustainable mushroom cultivation.

Metrics and Accountability

  • Quarterly review with mandatory participation of all staff for review of inventory utilization, waste production, and efficiency of cultivation process.
  • Track partnerships with underserved communities biannually and measure the impact of substrate donations through review of their experiences with cost-cutting and reduction of less environmentally sound products.
  • Publish annual sustainability reports on our website and social media describing progress over time to communicate achievements and commitments.

Community and Collaboration
