The Stargazer strain itself, while relatively modern in its branded name, stands within a long lineage of the Psilocybe cubensis species’ cultural legacy. This strain draws roots from Central and South America, especially in connection with indigenous peoples of Mesoamerica, such as the Mazatec, Mixtec, Zapotec, and the ancient Mayans. These peoples used various Psilocybe species in rites of passage, healing rituals, and deity communications for hundreds—if not thousands—of years.

Although Stargazer wasn’t specifically part of ancient ethnomycological use (as the name is a product of modern marketing), its genetic lineage traces directly back to wild Psilocybe cubensis populations used in ritual ceremonial contexts. For example, Aztec priests referred to magic mushrooms as “teonanácatl,” meaning “flesh of the gods,” and would consume them for divine visions and prophecy.
